Portuguese Heart of Viana Gold Pendant
This is a traditional gold "Heart of Viana" pendant completely hand-made in Portugal. The heart-shaped symbol originated at the end of the XVII century in the wake of the cult of Christ sacred heart during the rule of Queen Mary I. It symbolizes love that is so strong that the heart is full of flames.
Portuguese jewelry has historically been highly valued because of its superior quality and because of the ancient technique of making filigree jewelry. The oldest objects found on the territory of modern Portugal made in filigree date back to 2500-2000BC.
It should be noted that Portuguese gold has the highest purity in Europe at 19.2 karats or 80% gold purity. The length of this pendant is 1.20 inches including the ornate bale. It is 0.6 inches at its' widest part and weighs 3.6 grams.
